Born in 1915 in Paris, France, Archbishop Bernardino Piñera, retired archbishop of La Serena in Chile, first met Cardijn in 1946 when, as a seminarian, he became his interpreter during Cardijn's first trip to Chile. A year later, the newly ordained Fr Piñera took part in the International Conference of the YCW in Montreal, Canada. He later accompanied Cardijn on one of his tour's of Latin America, again acting as his interpreter. In 1950, he attended the YCW International Congress in Brussels. During that period, he also became national chaplain of the JOC in Chile, working closely with Chile JOC founder, Fr Rafael Larrain. Here are some recordings of Archbishop Bernardino's memories of his experiences with Cardijn. LINKS |
