Influenced by the Sillon and the ACJF as a seminarian and young priest, Cardinal Achille Liénart became bishop of Lille in December 1928, very shortly after the birth of the first JOC groups in that city. From the beginning he supported the YCW and developed specialised Catholic Action movements throughout his diocese. Later at Vatican II, he played a prominent leadership role, remaining a supporter of Cardijn his whole life. |
